Today I carried out one small adventure I’ve been thinking about for months: walking to Walmart, buying a bike, and riding it home.
I had already walked nearby to Trader Joe’s, hoping to buy a couple mini tote bags for a loved one. The cashier told me they ran out yesterday though and wouldn’t be getting more. I got some tempeh as a consolation prize. Looking forward to frying that tonight.
I had already packed some scissors for unpackaging the bike, just in case, but I was still a little indecisive as I stepped out of the grocery store… then I decided just to go for it.
Here it is:
The seat seems a bit hard, and I was worried a little by the noise from the gears, but it got me home. Hurray!
The youngin hasn’t gone biking for a few years. I’m hoping that maybe this’ll be a thing for us to do together now, at least around the neighborhood.
One thing I realized that I forgot to buy when I was about halfway home: a lock. I’m hoping it’s cheap enough that people will be less tempted to steal it, but I won’t count on it.
